hen God said, “Let the land sprout with vegetation—every sort of seed-bearing plant, and trees that grow seed-bearing fruit. These seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came.” And that is what happened. The land produced vegetation—all sorts of seed-bearing plants, and trees with seed-bearing fruit. Their seeds produced plants and trees of the same kind. And God saw that it was good.

Genesis 1:11-12 (New Living Translation)

ardens are a place of peace and reflection. They also give us hope during the dark times and sustain us when we retreat into these life-giving sanctuaries. Just look at how many people took up gardening during this Covid-19 pandemic and discovered the many health benefits of this pursuit. Benefits that are not only personally advantageous, but they can be shared with family, friends and community.

Gardens of Praise welcomes garden lovers to our new online special interest group, and we look forward to your contributions expanding our collective gardening knowledge as we praise our Creator. In this group, there will be an emphasis on plants mentioned in the Holy Bible or plants that have names associated with Scripture such as Moses in the Cradle (also known as Moses in a basket, boat lily, Moses in the bulrushes and oyster plant).

There are so many ways that you can participate in Gardens of Praise by sharing items of interest – from tips for growing a specific plant in a particular geographic location through to photos of your garden or plants with commentary. Here is a list of various items we would love to receive, and you must have permission to share these if they are not in the public domain:

  • notes and photos of plants mentioned in the Bible

  • garden poems, hymns, songs and readings

  • share your garden and gardening experiences
