The healing of the Roman Centurion's servant when Jesus was advised by a messenger that the servant was gravely ill. Jesus started to go to the Centurion's house, but the Centurion sent word that Jesus not trouble himself as he was not worthy that Jesus should come into his house, but just give the word and my servant will get well.

In verse 9, Jesus was amazed when he heard this and turning to the crowd following him, he said: ‘I tell you, I have never found faith like this, not even in Israel’.

Esther 4:15–7:4

Esther fasted and prayed for three days before risking death by approaching King Xerxes, the Persian King, without an invitation. The King, however, looked favourably upon her and accepted her invitation to attend a banquet. She repeated the invitation to a second banquet the next day, and when the King asked what she requested she told him of the imminent destruction of herself and the Jewish people. Her request was that my people may live.

2 Corinthians

3:12–18 (NIV)

Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away. But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

17 July sml.jpg

PRAYER

Lord, we praise You for Your saving grace and the transforming power of Your Holy Spirit in our life. As we reflect on this ongoing miracle of renewal that is available to Your children, may we reflect the love and glory of Jesus in all we say and do. In Jesus’ name, we pray.

AMEN

1Peter 4:12–14 (NIV)

Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

18 July sml.jpg

PRAYER

Loving Lord, the world does not comprehend our faith in You. We pray for Your strength and courage to help us stand against injustice, suffering and evil as we look ahead to the day when we will rejoice with You, because You were victorious over sin and death. Help us to rely on Your Spirit to uphold us and guide us through the tribulations of this world so that we may become more like Jesus.

26 July sml.jpg

PRAYER

Let us pray: Most gracious and Loving Heavenly Father, please accept my heartfelt thanks. So often I take for granted the days You give me until I come to a day I don’t feel as I should. It is with thanks I look to a newly created day – beautiful sky, birds that are happy enough to sing, and food on my table to sustain. Lord, for all these blessings I recognise this day, and I give You my thanks.

Loving Father, on reflection of the blessings You have gifted to me, I pray You walk with me this day as I share some of those blessings with someone who is out in the cold and unaware of the blessings of life. Give me confidence as we go to find the person You choose. In Your glorious and loving name, Lord Jesus, I pray.

John 14:1–3

(AMP)

“Do not let your heart be troubled (afraid, cowardly). Believe [confidently] in God and trust in Him, [have faith, hold on to it, rely on it, keep going and] believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places. If it were not so, I would have told you, because I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and I will take you to Myself, so that where I am you may be also.”

28 July sml.jpg

PRAYER

Lord God, thank You for the reassurance that Jesus has given us that we can confidently trust in You and Him for all eternity. To know that a place has been prepared for us to dwell with You brings us great joy, and we rejoice at such news. Even though we cannot imagine a new earth and new heaven, we will finally be able to fully comprehend that Jesus is the lion and the lamb. We pray that we may be loyal and faithful to the tasks You have given us here on this earth until You take us home. In Jesus’ name, we pray.

AMEN
